Marcy Dual Action Cross Training Recumbent Bike

The Marcy dual action recumbent bike, sold as the JX-7301, pairs a standard recumbent pedal cycle with elliptical-style arm levers that move back and forth as you pedal, an upper-body option most recumbent bikes in this class skip entirely. It runs on 8 levels of magnetic resistance through a chain drive, tracks time, speed, distance, calories, and odometer on its LCD console, and holds a 300 lb weight capacity with a contoured foam seat on a chrome-finished sliding track. At 3.8 out of 5 from 202 Amazon owners, it lands below some catalog peers, and the reasons why are worth reading first.

  • Dual-action arm levers add a real upper-body option most recumbent bikes at this level skip entirely
  • Contoured high-density foam seat and back pad, adjustable on a chrome-finished sliding track
  • LCD console tracks time, speed, distance, calories, and total odometer distance
  • Water bottle holder and transport wheels built in for day-to-day convenience
  • Two reviewers specifically credit the gentle pedaling motion with helping their recovery after knee replacement surgery
  • One owner described the angular steel main support structure as solidly built compared to steel tubing on cheaper bikes

Here's how this Marcy JX-7301 stacks up against the other recumbent bikes we recommend. Wins on total-body training: it's the only recumbent bike in our lineup with a built-in dual-action arm exerciser, Loses to the Marcy ME-706 on resistance range, 8 levels versus 24, and the ME-706's self-charging pedal motor never needs battery changes, Loses to the Schwinn 230 and Sunny SF-RB4850SMART on app connectivity and a longer, clearly stated warranty.

Assemble carefully at the connector-rod step

One reviewer found the printed instructions off by 180 degrees at that stage. Compare against the picture on the box if the steps don't line up.

Test the resistance and arm levers before your first full workout

Run through all 8 resistance levels and both arm levers at a low pace first, so a hardware issue is a same-day exchange, not a mid-workout surprise.

Why the JX-7301 wins its spot in this class

The only recumbent bike in our lineup with a real arm exerciser

The only recumbent bike in our lineup with a real arm exerciser

The dual-action handlebars move back and forth like an elliptical as you pedal, an upper-body option the ME-706, Schwinn, and Sunny Health & Fitness bikes beside it simply don't have.

Rehab-friendly motion owners return to daily

Two reviewers credit this bike's gentle circular pedaling motion with helping their recovery after knee replacement surgery, one riding short sessions several times a day and another riding daily years later.

A padded seat built for longer sessions

The contoured high-density foam seat and back pad slide on a chrome-finished track, so you can dial in leg extension without swapping to a harder aftermarket cushion.

What owners keep saying

This marcy dual action recumbent bike page draws mainly on 202 Amazon ratings and the 8 written Amazon reviews we could access, and now adds three attributed owner quotes pulled directly from Marcy's own product page for the JX-7301, which carries 10 customer reviews at time of writing (one other review on that same widget was explicitly tagged for a different Marcy model, the ME-1019R, and was excluded). Two of the three quoted reviewers are marked Verified on Marcy's site; the third is not, so weigh that one accordingly. It remains a seller-hosted source, not an independent one.

MLdoes the build quality actually feel solid, or flimsy

Putting the very inadequate instructions aside, I find this equipment to be very flimsy and difficult to use. The fit and finish of the parts is very poor making adjustments quite difficult. This seems to be a poorly engineered and sloppily built unit. Hopefully not all of your products are this poorly manufactured.

SMis the seat easy to adjust

It is very hard to adjust the seat. Seems really cheaply made.

comfort
JJwill the pedals stay attached during use

I've had a problem with the right pedal falling off after about 4 minutes of peddling. Quite a pain to have to put it back on every time I used it.

The honest cons

  • One reviewer's pedal lock nut sheared off and the pedals locked up within the first month
  • One reviewer described a loud, grinding noise developing from the bearings or gears
  • The connector-rod assembly step has a documented printing error, off by 180 degrees according to one detailed review
  • One reviewer found the seat-locking bar can loosen over time, letting the seat glide during pedaling until it's relocked
  • Only 8 magnetic resistance levels, fewer than the Marcy ME-706, Schwinn, and Sunny Health & Fitness bikes in our comparison table

FAQ

What's the Marcy dual action recumbent bike assembly like?

Expect a step that trips up careful builders. One reviewer, a self-described graduate engineer, found the connector-rod instructions printed 180 degrees off and worked around it using the picture on the box instead. Others called it a little difficult but doable. No source gives an exact assembly time for this model.

Does the arm exerciser actually work your upper body?

Yes, the handlebars move back and forth like an elliptical while you pedal, and Amazon's listing describes them as usable at the same time as the leg motion to help burn more calories. One long-term owner said they use the arms sometimes and not other times, since the levers keep moving on their own regardless.

Is this recumbent bike good for rehab or limited mobility?

Two reviewers in our research used it for recovery after knee replacement surgery, one riding about 10 minutes several times a day and crediting the circular motion with easing stiff knees, another riding daily years later on a doctor's recommendation. That's a real, if small, pattern worth knowing, though confirm with your own doctor first if you have a specific condition.

What's the JX-7301's weight capacity?

It's rated for riders up to 300 pounds, per Amazon's own spec sheet. That matches the Marcy ME-706, Schwinn, and Sunny Health & Fitness bikes in our comparison table, so weight capacity isn't a differentiator between them.

Why do some reviews mention noise or grinding?

One reviewer described a loud, grinding noise from what they guessed were cheap bearings or gears, calling it the one thing keeping an otherwise good-value bike from a higher score. It's a single account, not a majority pattern at 3.8 out of 5 across 202 ratings, but test your unit's resistance range early so a noisy bike is a same-day exchange, not a later surprise.

Does the LCD console show miles or kilometers?

One reviewer flagged that their console tracked distance and speed in kilometers with no way to switch to miles. Amazon's spec sheet doesn't say whether that's fixed on every unit or adjustable in settings, so check the display at your first session and contact Marcy if a switch isn't available.

How does this compare to the Marcy ME-706?

This bike trades resistance range for arm training. It offers 8 magnetic resistance levels against the ME-706's 24, and runs on a standard battery-powered console instead of the ME-706's self-charging pedal motor. What it adds is the elliptical-style arm exerciser, a feature the ME-706 doesn't have, though the ME-706 carries a higher 4.2 owner rating against this model's 3.8.

The verdict

The short version: the Marcy dual action recumbent bike is the only machine in our recumbent lineup built around a genuine arm-and-leg combo motion, elliptical-style handlebars that move as you pedal so you work your upper body without leaving the seat. Amazon's 3.8 out of 5 across 202 ratings trails the ME-706 and other bikes we cover, weighed down by a documented printing error in the connector-rod step, a loud-bearing complaint, and one sheared pedal lock nut in the first month. Two reviewers credit it with helping their recovery after knee replacement surgery.

Buy it if the dual-action arm levers are the actual reason you're shopping, and you're prepared to read the assembly instructions carefully at the connector-rod step before forcing anything into place. Skip it if you want more resistance levels or app-connected workouts, both of which the Marcy ME-706 and Sunny Health & Fitness pick in our comparison table offer instead.
